Could ear infections clear away on its own?

I've been having ear aches, congested ear and ringing. I've been using the Similisan drops, hydrogen peroxide and a neti pot with decongestant drops, and my ear doesn't feel as bad as last week when it all started, but the ringing continues and keep waking up with the ear congestion that gradually eases up during the day. I was at the doctor before this all started with a sore throat and she told me it would go away by itself and it did, so haven't gone back for the ear thing since I keep reading antibiotics are not always recommended or they build resistance. Should I keep waiting for it to clear, or spend money going to the doctor again?
